Wednesday evening witnessed yet another decent win for Arsenal against Manchester United at Emirates Stadium. The host were without their crucial players, Gabriel Magalhaes and Ricardo Calafiori. When Mike Arteta called on the starting eleven, Jacub Kiwior and Alexander Zinchenko were awarded chances in the starting line up.
Gabriel Magalhaes had a fantastic week after scoring in two consecutive away games against Sporting Lisbon and Westeharm United respectively. When he was left out against Manchester United on Wednesday night, it’s no doubt the fans would miss him so big. The partnership that Gabriel has built with William Saliba in the last two seasons is tremendous. Furthermore, he is a big match player having scored against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
When game started, arsenal looked hunger than Manchester United in the final third,an effort which saw them being awarded twelve corners while their opponents got non. It was yet to be known who would step up in the set pieces when their Brazilian Defender who is quite dangerous in the box was out due to injury.
Arsenal stepped in so perfectly and managed to score two of their twelve corners. The two goals saw Arsenal picking all the three points, reducing the gap to seven points after Liverpool drew Newcastle United earlier on.
The two goals from the conners saw Arsenal being the only team in the Premier League to have scored more goals from conners kicks. Arsenal have now scored twenty two goals from conners since the start of last season, seven more goals than any other side have from the corners. It’s crystal clear that Arsenal are quite dangerous when it comes to set pieces. Their set piece manager, Nicholas Jover must be doing fantastic work behind the scene. It’s yet to be see n if Arsenal will keep the fire burning form the set pieces.
